Black and White images turned to Colour with extra Depth!
In the UK we recently heard that the ancient port of Portsmouth is to cease building Naval ships after more than 800 years of history behind it.
I decided to create a short video about the docks and the history behind them. The problem is that there is no footage from the 1800’s! No problem, I used a lot of imagery including a lot of black and white turned to colour in order to modernise them.
You can see a video of me working on an image here!
Not only did I colour the images I separated different depths into layers and moved them independently of each other which gives the appearance of 3D!
I do a lot of work on colorisation, please follow me on twitter and check out my website for more information.
After seeing this article in the Daily Mail about the Titanic being coloured I decided to show how I would do it. No offence to the person that coloured the images, but I feel that the colour is too over the top and simplified. Just because it is being turned into a colour image, doesn’t mean it has to be ‘colourful’ - the key is to use in moderation and focus on realism.
I’ve Just finished working on a piece for a publisher. I’ve been turning old WW2 black and white photography into colour photography. I’m really happy with the results on this one, looks like it was taken yesterday.
All the colours are 100% accurate and sampled from actual present day photography of the aircraft/uniform. The sky was taken from one of my own photographs and blended in to fit the scene. Very happy with the results.
